Tips to Handle Hot Weather at a Summer Marquee Wedding
The weather in July and August 2023 has been truly shocking. For all those couples who have endured the rain and storms on their big day this year, I feel you. In the spirit of dreaming of warmer times, I’ve put together my top tips for dealing with hot weather at your outdoor wedding.
SHADE
If you are planning a summer marquee wedding, you probably plan to spend some time outside during the day. I mean, who wouldn't want that? If this sounds like your idea of heaven, it is a good idea to make sure your guests have a shaded area to retreat to. This can be something as simple as a pop up gazebo with comfy seating, or a table with a large parasol. Tipi and Marquee companies often have mini structures too, which can complement your larger venue.
ICE
Place ice buckets around your marquee or tipi, filled with water bottles for your guests to easily access as a cooling treat. Why not also include a bucket filled with ice pops and ice lollies?
Extra tip: make sure your bar has extra ice on hand to refill the buckets, it will be sure to melt fast in the heat!
BASKETS
Place baskets of cooling goodies around your marquee or tipi, for your guests to help themselves to. This can include cooling spray, handheld fans and sun cream. Trust me, your guests will thank you later!
You could even have a separate basket with parasols near your exit, for your guests to use whilst outside.
FANS
I know I've mentioned fans above, but seriously, this is one of the easiest ways of helping your guests stay cool! Consider doubling the fans up as your wedding favour and/or place name card. Leaving a handheld fan labelled with each guest's name at their table setting is a really thoughtful and useful gift for a summer wedding.
CLOTHING
If you are planning a summer marquee wedding, you should absolutely stress to your guests to wear breathable clothing! Linen and cotton materials are best and always stick to lighter colours. Guests will be sure to give you an extra special thanks for giving them license to wear shorts, too! But, remember to layer up, as it will always cool down in the evening.
Extra tip: bring a change of shirt for the Groom!
