Buckminster Barn: An Outdoor Wedding Venue in Nottinghamshire

Buckminster Barn is an idyllic rustic wedding venue located in the heart of the Nottinghamshire/Lincolnshire countryside. The most unique thing about the venue, is that it is dry hire: meaning that you can create your own one of a kind day with no limitations. It also doubles as an outdoor wedding venue as there is space next to the barn to erect a structure of your choosing.

So, what does dry hire mean? Well, traditional wedding venues (referred to as “Wet Hire”) allow you use of the venue along with their in house catering and bar team. They may also provide you with a list of preferred suppliers for you to choose from for the rest of your day. “Dry Hire” is a term used to describe a venue that allows you the use of the space without any further restrictions. This means that you can create your own personalised team of suppliers to create a day tailored to your dream.

With a large garden space outside of the barn, the venue is suitable for certain sized structures which is a great way to extend the indoor space and create something truly different. You could use the outdoor space as seating for your wedding breakfast, or even an evening party space.

In September 2022 I planned a photoshoot at Buckminster Barn to showcase the beautiful rural setting available for hire. The venue is a complete blank canvas, but with a rustic base it gives a stunning starting point for how you can see your big day. Sami Tipi provided a striking One Giant Hat Tipi outside the barn which we turned into a party space with a bar, all centred around a fire pit.

We had a dream team of suppliers who came together on the day to build something special, each playing a huge part in highlighting the distinctive nature of the venue. Sticking with the party theme, I chose a bright and colourful theme that really popped against the tipi canvas.

The florals were key to the colouring and perfectly brightened up the tipis. We used luxurious gold charger plates and candle holders, and complemented the bright colours with teal napkins wrapped with pink ribbons. The stationery also included gold leaf calligraphy.

We set up a bar area inside the tipi, but with the large outdoor space there is even the option to have an outdoor bar.

An outdoor wedding or dry hire wedding is the perfect option if you want to create your own day full of personality, but none of the traditional venues you have visited have ticked that box. Having a blank canvas venue where the only limitation is the boundaries of your imagination, can sometimes be a little overwhelming. Having a wedding planner on board from the get-go can be key to staying on track with your planning, and understanding how your vision can be turned into a reality.
