A Guide to Kickstart Your Wedding Planning

If you’ve just become engaged, you’ll probably be feeling super excited with the prospect of finally being able to plan the most wonderful day of your life! The day that you’ve been dreaming of for so long. But then comes the daunting realisation that you’re planning a wedding, having never planned one before.

Your excitement may have turned into feeling a little overwhelmed with how and where to start. But fear not! Treat this blog as your starting guide to kickstart your wedding planning process.

So, how do you actually get started? Read on…

1. Guest List
It is often thought that the best place to start is your budget. But, how do you know what budget to set if you don't know how many guests you'll have? Start by working out the key people you want with you on the day. Remember, this is your day and you don’t have to invite anyone you don’t truly want to be a part of your wedding day celebrations.

2. Budget
Once you have an idea of your guest numbers, you can start to work out a realistic budget to put in place. When you’ve set your initial budget, a great place to start is with a “Needs vs Wants” lists. Sit down together and agree between you the key things that you want for your wedding day, i.e. the elements that you simply cannot live without! These are your needs. Your wants then become the additional extras that, if the budget allows, would be a nice bonus for the day.

3. Venue
Only once you've got your guest numbers and budget should you start looking at venues. Then, you'll know what capacity you need for you guests and you can start to narrow down venues in line with your ideal costs. You’ll save a lot of time not visiting venues that turn out to be way over budget! Finalising your venue may also lead into you confirming your wedding date based on their availability. Once you’ve got your venue booked and date confirmed, you can really get into all the fun parts of your planning!

Wedding planning is no easy task! Planning a marquee wedding or dry hire wedding also adds in additional layers to contend with, without having a one stop venue to cover off a few key suppliers. Although, I do think this makes it more fun! I hope this blog helps you with where to get started no matter what kind of wedding you are planning. As you know, wedding planning is my jam. So, if you’re still feeling daunted, let’s have a chat about how I can get you back into that excitement zone.
